What is Duplex?

A duplex communication is made up from two connected devices which can communicate with one another in both diractions.The two main type of duplex communications are half duplex and full duplex
 

Half Duplex

half duplex system provides communications in both ways, but only one diraction can use the link at a time.That means when one side is sending the other side keep waiting until the signal is over and only then start to trasnimite .

Full Duplex

Unlike half duplex system the full duplex system allows communication in both direction simultaneously.Full duplex system gives several benifits over half-duplex communication, first there is a full bandwidth utilization in both directions of the link and there are no collisions
